The Rainbox Wheel Chemical Nomenclature Game - only $20.00 each!!!

The Rainbow Wheel is a chemical nomenclature game that students play to help them master chemical nomenclature. The game consists of two wheels; one is a cation wheel and the other is an anion wheel. Each wheel has 36 specific ions surrounding the wheel in a pie-shaped format. The word rainbow is used because each wheel contains four rainbows that are very colorful and appealing to the eye.

The objective of the game is to have the student spin a spindle within each wheel, thus randomly selecting a cation and an anion. The student is to then combine the anion and cation in the correct formula and to name it correctly according to nomenclature rules. The answers are placed on a grid with space for ten cations and ten anions. Once the grid is complete, the students will have written formulas and names for 100 compounds.

MatrixThe Rainbow Matrix is a chemical nomenclature game that students play to help them master chemical nomenclature. The game consists of two matrices; one is a cation matrix and the other is an anion matrix. Each matrix consists of 36 specific ions. The word rainbow is used because the ion squares are very colorful and appealing to the eye.

The objective of the game is to have the student randomly select a cation and an anion by pushing a button. The ions then start to randomly blink until you decide to stop. At this point an anion/cation pair will show up on their respective sides. Representative ion cutouts will also appear on each side which the students can use to drag to the middle of the screen to visually see how many of each ion they will need to construct the compound. The student is then required to type in the formula and once correct they will be prompted for the name. At the end of the game, the results are sent to the instructor by email. The game is configurable for test and practice modes.

The Virtual Introductory Chemistry Lab is exactly what the name suggests. An intro chemistry lab that is delivered virtually through the world wide web. This lab is intended to complement an introductory level intro chemistry course that is also delivered online. Dr. Chimeno has written a text "Applied Chemistry" to complement this Virtual Lab. It is available at Linus Books. The lab's goal is to give the students lab experience and knowledge that would approximate what they would have learned in a real lab setting.

 

The lab is set up like any normal lab. You have certain chemicals and particular lab equipment that is needed for the lab. You read the procedure for the experiment and follow the directions. The experiment will take place in the workspace in the middle of the page. You will note the observations and results from this workspace and record them in the questions area. These observations and questions can then be sent to your instructor for evaluation.
